December 28, 2020 Website Fundraiser

I know times are tough, but I need to raise $400 to secure web hosting for tohereknowswhen/Come in alone as well as Webadleica (primal scream) for the next 3 or is it 4 years, I forget, by January 31, 2021. I've only asked asked for help once before in 20+ years of running these sites. Mani Mounfield of Primal Scream (at the time) was kind enough to donate $100 at that time! Any amount will be appreciated as it adds up. I will stop the fundraising once I hit the the target.

HERE IS THE LINK TO DONATE.

Many thanks!

New Album, "Weirder than Loveless"

The new Valentines album is due for release sometime in Decemebr of 2012. There will be a new EP released 2013. Some people who have heard it say it sounds weirder than LoveLess! Although Kevin doesn't agree. It will be available digitally from the official Valentines site. No word on a physical release as of yet.

Here is the full article

June 5, 2012 More new album news

A new album and EP will be released this according to NME. Kevin says it's influenced by The Beach Boys Here is the full article

April 8, 2012 Kevin sheds light on new album

"It's not going to sound like Loveless where it's like looking into another world," he said "More like Isn't Anything, where it seems to be of this world, but with one foot in another world. The songs on Loveless had more in common with folk-blues music to me, just a verse and an instrumental passage, circular. The new songs are more... sometimes it's just that, and sometimes it's songs that have one verse, then a musical part, then something that's totally different. More elongated... and more raw. A lot of the guitars are very aggressive."

Manufacturing errors and disc confusion?

Another critical error is in the "1/2 inch analogue tape" remaster: there is an ugly digital transfer glitch approximately 2:46 into "What You Want", during the "I do, I do..." bit. It's prominent and ugly, audible (yuck! through headphones) and visible in a spectral view. This error was also present in the 2008 leak of the analogue tape variant, so Kevin/Sony has had (at least) 4 years to fix this.
Apparently the Loveless remasters are mislabeled as well according to this review. Read this blog review for more information about the remasters.

UPDATE: It seems only some people are experiencing the glitch on cd1 on 'what you want'. So i'm not sure how wide spread the problem is.

May 7, 2012 New interview with Kevin

Check out this new Pitchfork Interview with Kevin about the remasters.

April 24, 2012 New album and EP

According to the new Mojo magazine, Kevin talks about how when he went back and listened to all the abandoned stuff, that he realised that it was all way better than the "unreleased" out-takes on the new compilation, and that it would be madness not to finish them! He also confirmed that there are 9 tracks on the new record that he's working on and a new EP is to be recorded and released as soon as possible. (Full article coming soon)

March 23, 2012 Official Press Release

My Bloody Valentine

Announce details of the release of re-mastered versions of their two classic albums and a brand new compilation of EPs and previously un-released tracks.

My Bloody Valentine have announced details of the release of a trio of re-issues on Monday May 7th 2012 through Sony Commercial Music Group.

They will release their 2 full-length studio albums, Isn't Anything and Loveless, plus EP's 1988-1991, a brand new compilation which draws together their 4 EP releases, Feed Me With Your Kiss, You Made Me Realise, Glider and Tremolo alongside 7 additional rare and previously un-released tracks.

The original studio albums have been painstakingly re-mastered by Kevin Shields at Metropolis Studios in London and Loveless comes as a 2-disc set featuring a previous re-mastering from original analogue tapes, completed by Kevin Shields but never released.

Alongside their EPs, the compilation album features a mixture of rare and unavailable and previously unreleased tracks.

My Bloody Valentine remain one of the most unique and thrilling bands of the last 25 years. Sonic pioneers, they stood alone in the late 80s / early 90s, their two albums sounded like nothing that had gone before. Loveless in particular was a breathtaking piece of work exploring the outer reaches of a guitar's capabilities Ð it's no surprise that 20 years later the album is still influencing a new generation of musicians from The Horrors to Radiohead.

Isn't Anything, released on Creation Records in November 1988, was My Bloody Valentine's debut long-player. Formed in Dublin in 1983, prior to Isn't Anything they had released a number of EPs and mini-albums. The album was preceded by You Made Me Realise, an EP which gave some indication of the avant-garde musical direction of the album, which, on release, was heralded as peerless.

Isn't Anything was Recorded in Wales over a two-week period in the late spring of 1988 and produced by the band and following some personnel changes it featured the line-up of Kevin Shields (guitar, vocals), Bilinda Butcher (guitars / vocals), Colm O Coisoig (drums) and Debbie Googe (bass) which would go on to record and release Loveless 3 years later.

Their second album, Loveless, was released in November 1991. Recorded over a two-year period between 1989 and 1991, the album's gestation was long and complex with numerous studios and engineers used, yet on its eventual release it was soon apparent My Bloody Valentine had released a hugely innovative, original and definitive album, the legacy of which still resonates today.

My Bloody Valentine played a number of shows in 2008, their first in a number of years, including performances at the Roskilde, Benicassim, Electric Picnic, Fuji Rock and Bestival festivals and in 2009 they curated the All Tomorrows Parties ÔNightmare Before Christmas' event.

October 15, 2011 Kevin Shields starts his own record label
It's excellent to see La Volume Courbe's Charlotte Marionneau back releasing music after almost four years absence and there's no doubt this EP provides an interesting development in a promising career. The ever-modest Frenchwoman has set up a new label, Pickpocket Records, with none other than My Bloody Valentine's Kevin Shields to distribute the new material. In an interview with Marionneau in 2007 while promoting her last release, Freight Train, she told me working Shields and Hope Sandoval - a connection brokered by former Creation and Poptones boss Alan McGee - rovided a wealth of ideas to work on. Here, Marionneau appears more melancholic than her previous work - released on Honest Jons and Trouble Records - with a dreamy, fragile touch to each of the four tracks. Her broken English proves endearing while there's a vulnerability ("thank you for everything that you do" on I Love the Living You) that underlines each track.

The pick of the bunch is Lazy which has a catchy "you're crazy and lazy, you know how much I love you" refrain and is punctured intermittently with short busts of heavy riffing, strangely thrilling in their bizarre juxtaposition. Elsewhere there's beautiful violin, a track that featured as the closing track in Nick Moran's film The Kid last year and artwork which features Belgian surrealist Paul Nouge's La Bras Revelateur. Plenty to enjoy here. Source: Shadowplay Fanzine

January 17, 2010 IMPORTANT MESSAGE ABOUT FACEBOOK FROM BILINDA
Bilinda Butcher would like to point out that she doesn't have a Facebook page. The person who is pretending to be Bilinda Jayne Butcher isn't her, nor are any of the other Bilinda Butchers online. Bilinda isn't a member of any social networking sites. If they could all stop pretending to be her she would appreciate it.

19 May 2008 Boxset Postponed Indefinately(?)
According this article yes.

"The following day, a representative from Sony (who now possess the band's back catalogue) emailed to ask if I would write the sleevenotes for a very imminent My Bloody Valentine box set featuring Shields's remastered versions of Isn't Anything and Loveless, as well as all the songs that appeared on their now hard-to-find EPs and several unreleased tracks. An interview was scheduled for the following week as soon as Shields had approved the CD artwork. I am still waiting. In the meantime, the release of the box set has been postponed indefinitely."

15 May 2008 News on the remasters and Japan only boxset
This is getting confusing, make of it what you will. Anyone who has pre-ordered the Japanese only boxset from hmv.co.jp, recently received an email saying the box set has been delayed. The boxset is apparently no longer available for order, although this link has been mysteriously found, even though it doesn't show up in the search results any longer. A new member on the forum who says he is close to the band, says the Japanese only box set is happening. I've asked MBV management and they can't confirm the status of it as Kevin is busy with rehersals and getting 'The Coral Sea' CD out.

The remasters of 'Isn't Anything" and "Loveless' are due for release on June 16th in the UK. Here is the press release. The remastered albums will be released on vinyl as well. No word yet on a digital release date.

The Japanese boxset has the catalog number of (SICP-1851). For those of you you who think the boxset is bogus, it did appear on the Sony Japn site briefly. Here is a screen capture from the Google's cache (coming soon..i hope). You will notice that 'Loveless' doesn't include the 2nd remastered version. Here is the complete tracklisting as I suspect it will be if or ever it's released:

Now if this isn't confusing enough already. cdjapan.co.jp recently listed 'Isn't Anything" and "Loveless' limited remasters in cardboard sleeves but they have mysteriously vanished now but here is the info they had:

It's also strange that the 'Glider' remix single isn't included on any of these releases. Will they be included on another disc of rarities to be released in the more distant future?

Is it possible that too many people from around the world have ordered the limited Japanese only box set and Sony decided to cancel it's release? Only time will tell. It's never easy being a My Bloody Valentine fan.

ps. i hope this all makes sense it's late and I'm very tired.

More album remasters news
According to Pitchfork...
the only two MBV albums that matter (This Is Your Bloody Valentine was practically an EP anyway) will hit UK shops June 16 in newly remastered formats. While the Isn't Anything remaster spans only one disc, the Loveless one comes as a double-disc: the first disc remastered from both DAT (digital audio tape) and analogue tape, and the second remastered from just analogue tape. No needless bonus cuts or anything, just two gems in all their pristine, self-contained glory.

Vinyl editions of these remasters are expected to follow in the UK, and the Sony BMG rep suggests the band and label are mulling "other possible releases for later in the year."

25 April 2008 The Coral Sea coming to CD
Patti Smith and Kevin Shields' live collaboration on "The Coral Sea" will finally see the light of day this summer, when it comes out as a 2CD set on their own PASK label.

The album, released on July 11, features two live performances from June 22, 2005 and September 12, 2006, both at London's Queen Elizabeth Hall. They both feature Smith creating a spoken-word performance from her 1996 book "The Coral Sea", a homage to her close friend and legendary photographer Robert Mapplethorpe.

Shields provides an instrumental backing to Smith's performance, using guitar and his legendary array of effects. The two shows are said to have a "different stylistic approach". The album lasts nearly two hours in total.

It is not known whether Smith and Shields will collaborate together again. The release coincides with Shields finally reactivating My Bloody Valentine for a series of live and festival dates starting this June.

3 versions of each album to be released?
Shields, Sony Remastering My Bloody Valentine Albums?
By Eliot Van Buskirk

Two classic My Bloody Valentine albums are going under the knife in a remastering process driven by frontman Kevin Shields and Sony/BMG, according to a source familiar with the situation.

Both albums -- Isn't Anything and especially the band's seminal work Loveless -- are known for their amazing sonic characteristics, which Shields has long maintained were not the result of studio trickery, but rather simple techniques like tuning two strings to the same note.

As a result, there's quite a bit of pressure to get the remastered versions sounding perfect in advance of their re-release and the band's reunion tour this summer. One possibility, as amazing as it might seem, is that Sony/BMG will re-release three versions of each album: the original mix, a new Shields mix and a new Sony mix. Movie studios do this all the time (director's cut, unrated version) but the approach tends not to be used much with music.

The source said that Shields, who nearly bankrupted Creation Records with Loveless, is the one advocating the multiple-version approach. However, Sony/BMG might resist the idea of releasing three versions. On the other hand, the label might go for it: The approach could lead to more sales, as fans buy multiple copies of the albums they already have, eager to discover new sonic nuances. Most likely, fan consensus would then determine which was the ultimate version. My Bloody Valentine will reunite this summer for a series of U.K. shows, and in addition to remastering its two classic albums, is said to be working on new material that will not be released in a digital-only format, despite an earlier rumor to that effect. The band recently announced that it will play America, too. Tickets go on sale for the MBV-headlined New York All Tomorrow's Parties festival Friday.

Kevin interview on 'Soft Focus'
Kevin recently appeared on US web TV show and says the band are indeed releasing aanother album. You can here it from the horses mouth here.

New MBV album due (for real)
The album will appaarently be material that Kevin and Belinda recorded as a follow up to 'Loveless'. It's similar and not radically different than what they were doing before. Kevin plans to finish up these recording. The album will also include a couple new songs. More details soon, I just want to get this up since I'm been snoozing on adding all this news to the site.

28 August 07 MBV to play Coachella in 2008 and tour rumours
As you've all seen around the net, rumours are flying around about MBV playing Coachella in 2008 and a full world tour to follow. Kevin's manager has told me these are only rumours and gossip. Here is the original article. Kevin's manager can only confirm that Kevin is currently remastering their albums as well as the rest of the Creation Records back a catalog I would imagine because this has been rumoured lately as well.

23 August 07 Official Myspace page?
A curious thing has happened. There now appears to be an official My Bloody Valentine myspace site. It even has a link to MyBloodyValentine.co.uk. Could this be a signal that the new album and tour runours are actually true?

9 July 07 RUMOUR: New album and tour in 2008?
Several people have had a chance to run to Kevin Shields at various recent events (Meltdown, Moscow gig). Apparently Kevin told them that a new album and tour are in store for 2008. Supposedly the album is almost done. I'm hesitate to report this as the last big news that I reported was the 2 Boxset release that never happened, so take with with a grain of salt. I'm working on getting official word.

RUMOUR: Remastered Creation EP to ever see the light of day?
As if it wasn't enough news about a new album and tour, someone else says they ran into Kevin and asked him about the remastered Creation records EPs. Supposedly they are done. No release date has been announced. Again, until I can try to confirm this rumor as well, take this with a grain of salt too

24 January 07 33 1/3 Loveless Book Competition
Continuum Books were kind enough to donate 5 copies of My Bloody Valentine's Loveless (33 1/3) for a competition in conjunction with this site. To be entered into the competition you must answer the following 3 questions correctly. Correct entries will be randomly picked. The Deadline to enter by is February 1st, 2007. Winners will be selected shortly thereafter

1. Who was My Bloody Valentine's first lead singer?
2. What pet is Kevin particularly fond of supposedly?
3. What band did Kevin play guitar live with in recent years?

5 January 07 My Bloody Valentine's Loveless (33 1/3)
My Bloody Valentine's Loveless (33 1/3) by Mike McGonigal is finally going to see the light of day. Check out the 33 1/3 Blog. In case you never got around to pre-ordering it, you still can here at Amazon.com. Here is what Amazon says about it:
My Bloody Valentine's Loveless is one of the most revered albums of the 1990s. Highly influential, shrouded in mystery, it has - so far - been an impossible album to follow up for its chief creator, Kevin Shields. Here, Mike McGonigal pieces together the often painful process behind the writing and recording of Loveless, and tries to separate fact from fiction in a story that involves (among other things) chinchillas, chicken-eating contests, countless engineers, and sleep deprivation. The result - with the help of Kevin Shields and the rest of MBV - is a fitting tribute to this remarkable record.

4 January 07 A new MBV record?
Yes, you read that correctly..and this actually appears to be true according to Kevin himself in the Jan/Feb issue of Magnet. Here is an excerpt:

A lot of people say the reason My Bloody Valentine didn't make another record is because we couldn't. That's mostly true, but not because we couldn't make another record, but because I never could be bothered to make another record unless I was really excited by it. And just by fate or whatever, that never happened. I'm quite optimistic about the future, even though experience has taught me that I'm probably just delusional. I do feel that I will make another great record. We are 100 percent going to make another My Bloody Valentine record unless we die or something. I'd feel really bad if I didn't make another record. Like, "Shit, people only got the first two chapters, but the last bit is the best bit." It's just that it's taken me such an oddly long time for that to happen. How long will that take to transpire into an actual physical record? I don't know.

10 May.05 MBV to reform?
According to an email I got from someone, they spoke to Kevin at the recent "All Tommorrow's Parties". He said he's been asked to curate the festival next year, but on one condition, he reform MBV. Kevin said he didn't really want to do this and only the coming months will he decide. But it doesn't seem too likely he told this fan.

10 May.05 Boxsets still to happen?
Also this same email as mentioned above, Kevin says the box sets may happen eventually. Albert Tramson, a close friend with Kevin tells me, that the box sets rumour were a myth but once Kevin heard about it, he thought it would be worth doing sometime. Now the mail I originally got from an apparent friend of Kevin's, did seem to have lots of details that only someone who has been close to Kevin would have known. So if Kevin can ever get over his battle with Sony, it looks as though it might happen.

10 May.05 2CD compliation is definately on.
Kevin is having problems with Sony still in regards to this. And yes there are 4 unreleased tracks, that Albert Tramson tells me are "class". This comp was orignally suposed to come out on Creation records!

10 May.05 Kevin to quit working with the scream?
Aslo this person from the same email says that Kevin said he doesn't want to work with The Scream any more because it's talking up too much of his time. it is unclear if he is working with The Scream on the new album, but I think he is from the sounds of it. I'm looking into what this means exactly.

31 July.04 'Paint a rainbow' remastered
'Paint a Rainbow' appears on a new Rough Trade compilation, 'Rough Trade Shops: Indiepop 1.' it will be released by Mute on August 23. I was just informed by Albert that the song was remastered and he believes that the rest of the songs from that ep have also been remastered. He suspect these tracks may be the first to get reissue treatment.

17 June.04 2CD compilation update
According to sources close with Kevin, he hasn't even begun working on the remastered eps! (Ed: argh!)

25 Feb.04 2CD compilation due soon
According to British magazine, Uncut, Sony are to release a 2CD compilation sometime this year. This contradicts what my reliable source told me. if you recall this reliable source said 2 box sets will be released in 2005 or 2006. So now I'm wondering how true this box set actually is.

13 Jan.04 More New Material from Kevin?
Kevin plans on releasing "a short album as soon as possible" according to a recent interview with Now Toronto.com. Here's an excerpt

"It makes me want to release something myself to let people know what I've been doing at home. I've never stopped writing over the years. I'm going to try to put out a short album as soon as possible."

Perhaps even better news for My Bloody Valentine fans is that a reunion hasn't been ruled out.

"I've only just gotten free and clear of my previous label deals that had me tied up with Warner and Island/Universal. This might sound strange, but to get out of it I had to leave My Bloody Valentine. So, technically, Belinda (Butcher) is still in the band, but no one other than me can use the name.

"We've always intended to make another My Bloody Valentine record together; we just needed the right spirit, and we didn't have it in us after Loveless. There's a whole aspect of My Bloody Valentine that we never really had a chance to explore."

According to a post by 'Lovelee Sweet Darlene' on a Creation Records Forum there will be no box set. Instead it will be a 2CD complilation and will include 4 unreleased tracks from the Isn't Anything sessions. It will also have "Sugar" which only other CD appearance is on a french only promo CD. It will also feature all the Creation EPs songs.

5 Jan.04 Kevin contributes to movie soundtrack
Kevin Shields has contributed to the "Lost in translation" soundtrack. It contains 4 newly written songs City Girl, Goodbye, Are you awake? and Ikebana. Also on the soundtrack is the My Bloody Valentine song, "Sometimes". The soundtrack was released in September 2003

5 Jan.04 A New MBV album?
Yes, according to a recent interview with Kevin

5 Jan.04 A New MBV Ep and Box Set?
Rumours surfaced in the summer of 2003 that Kevin Shields, Colm O'Ciosiog and Bilinda Butcher (bassist Debbie Googe is not present at the sessions) are reportedly re-recording five songs that the band abandoned for their 1989 EP Glider. The EP, released in between 1988's Isn't Anything and the group's undisputed masterpiece, the dream-pop landmark Loveless, was originally meant to be a nine-song full-length album, but the band, as usual, was took too long to record it and eventually caved to pressure from the industry and released the four finished songs as an EP.

The remaining five unfinished songs from the sessions were shelved indefinitely as the band proceeded to work on Loveless -- and with the group's breakup soon after, "indefinitely" seemed to turn into "forever" for those missing tunes. Now that could all change. The box set, which is tentatively due out this winter, is said to contain the long-awaited full version of My Bloody Valentine's Glider album, fleshed out by the new recordings. There is, however, no word yet as to what else the box set might contain, or even what label may decide to release it.

Help Kevin and the Valentines out!
The Hunt for rare my bloody valentine records
As an old friend of the band and a horder of all things mbv, I have been asked by Kevin Shields to look for information on rare, non-UK mbv records from the Creation era, specifically Isn't Anything and Loveless. The problem was that when Creation sold to Sony, small details such as who licensed what were lost, leaving the band in the dark over their own output. I have forwarded details of all the records I have traced so far and I know there's more out there, I just haven't got my hands on them or real evidence yet. There's definitely loads more releases in existence, and obviously countries generally release records on more than one format, which again provides a lot of scope. I have spent nearly 2 years on and off looking for these beauties and new records do keep appearing. So if you can, please help the band trace their back catalogue. Send any information you have to Many thanks and it will be made worth your while. Here is the list I've complied so far Here is the list I've complied so far. Luv Albert Transom. 17 July 04

Box Set details surface
UPDATE: the box set is not happening right now. i will post more details soon. i've know about this for a while but i still get mails about this.

According to a mail I got recently from a very reliable source, there is indeed a box set coming. (Ed: I believe this one) In fact there are 2 box sets coming out, plus a DVD! Sadly they probably won't be released until late 2005 or early 2006. The Anthology will be a Island/Sire release. Contary to popular belief, Kevin's contract to Island is still valid. So apparently the news of the box set being scrapped were false. Here are the details. 12 Jan.04
